Population Health is about improving the health of all people and decreasing health inequities between different groups in the population. To achieve these goals, the Population Health Unit works in partnership with others on areas affecting health, including:
- social environments (such as communities, schools, workplaces)
- physical environments (such as air, water, buildings, roads)
- social supports
- healthy child development
- literacy
- employment and working conditions
- income
- personal behaviours
- health services
The Population Health Unit (PHU) is based in La Ronge and provides population and public health services for the three northern Saskatchewan health authorities: Athabasca Health Authority, Keewatin Yatthé Regional Health Authority and the Mamawetan Churchill River Regional Health Authority. The PHU is coordinated through a co-management partnership between the three northern health authorities.
